A SIMPLE METHOD FOR STAYING CALM IN CRAZY SITUATIONS

For the past 12 months, I’ve been living a fairly crazy life.  In some ways it has simplified, yet in other ways – the ‘crazy’ has upped its anty!  From sharing a house with 7 adults, 2 kids, chickens and dogs, full time work as well as helping out with our yoga business – things do tend to get a bit crazy.

I’ve learned some key lessons to staying calm and peaceful amidst the craziness and thought I’d share a few with you.

  • Embrace the craziness!  If you can’t beat them – join them!  Accept that sh*t happens and simply go with the flow.  Unfortunately, we don’t have control over our environment and people.  All you can do is focus on yourself, your reactions and how long you stay in that state of reaction.  Learn how to embrace the ‘unknown’ and look forward to what can come out of it.  At times, our greatest ‘failures’ can be our greatest gifts.
  • Prioritise.  This is why we do our ‘Strategy Sundays’, so that we know what we need to focus on that week, what needs to get done and on what days we have certain priorities.  If we didn’t do this, we’d allow ‘lower priority’ activities to sneak up and distract us.
  • Be fully immersed in the present moment.  I’ve noticed that when things are crazy, time tends to go really quickly and it’s easy to not live in the present moment, to start and create mental checklists or thinking of what needs to be done next.  Instead, focus on the task at hand – give it 110% of your focus.  This way it will get done correctly and with heart and mind aligned – magic happens ; )
